Why Cycle?
The Southampton Cycle Challenge is taking place to encourage people to get on their bikes, have some fun and experience the benefits cycling can offer.
Cycling is a great way to commute to and from work. It is faster and more reliable than driving at peak times in the city centre, allows you to get some fresh air and exercise during your normal day and lets you arrive at work more awake, alert and able to concentrate.
Organisations that encourage cycling are more productive and have less absenteeism. By enticing people out of cars onto more sustainable forms of transport, organisations are demonstrating their concern for their employees health and well-being as well as their commitment to the local environment.
You can travel around six miles in half an hour on a bicycle at a moderate speed, meaning that a large proportion of global|europe|england|southampton's workers actually live within 30 minutes cycle commuting distance of their workplace.
global|europe|england|southampton is a great city for cyclists. There are some fantastic routes and places within a short distance of the city that can be reached easily by bike.
